Easter Camp 2018

Our amazing GSL drove us up to Llyndy Isaf in Snowdonia, at which we arrived very early Thursday morning. Once we managed to get across the boggy campsite, we put up our tents and fell into a deep sleep, and then it started to rain.

We woke up to glorious sunshine and got straight into work by collecting firewood, setting up the tepee and clearing the stream, which was flooding our campsite.

Later, in the evening, we set of onto our 7km night hike; starting from Nantmor climbing over Mynydd sygyn and Moel y Dyniewyd, walking around Llyn Dinas and coming to an end back at our campsite.

To our surprise, we woke up again to sunshine and we helped Jack, Iago and Ned from the YG Eryri y Llyn branch of the National Trust maintain paths around Bryn-y-Felin.

After a hard day of work, we went for a shower just before the rain. As night crept closer, we chilled out around the stove in the teepee where Chloe and Ruth made us some delicious Welsh Cakes!

Rain woke us up the next morning and we did some navigation practice on the hills above Beddgelert Forest. When we reached the highest point on our little hike, we climbed Y Gyrn and we saw Princess Old Quarry and the miners houses.

For the evening, we went to the local sports centre Plas-y-Brenin where we attended a lecture about rock climbing and an 8-month cycle tour trip to South America and had a pub dinner.

Sunday came, and we split into two teams and tackled Mount Snowdon! After the steep climb, we finally got to the highest point of England and Wales.

We stopped off at the historical Pen-y-Gwyrd Hotel at the foot of Snowdon for a refreshing cola and to see the signatures and equipment of famous mountaineers who trained for expeditions such as Everest on Mount Snowdon.

Louis, Alex and David treated us to a BBQ feast and a cup of hot chocolate and as night got closer our amazing time in Snowdonia came to an end.

Monday morning looked hopefully and full of sunshine, so we packed up camp quickly and left at 12:15. Unfortunately, the lovely weather came to an end and we had non-stop rain all the way back. Thank you to Louis for organising an amazing camp and Alex for being our minibus driver.
